The first story I wrote about Lavender and written before she developed the full use of Telekinesis. She's beautiful, young, impulsive and extremely bright. Knowing that her force beams have physical effects (as opposed to energy effects), she's deduced that she may be able to pick up objects at a distance. In essence, she might have Telekinesis. Chief, another member of the Southern Squires, stumbles onto Lavender testing her telekinetic abilities. Surreptitiously, he observes her...with rather interesting results.
Lavender In Training
"What the hell is she doing?", thought the Chief to himself.
From his vantage point in the control booth of the danger room he looked at the contraption Lavender had fashioned. A lamp, minus the shade, was turned on its side. Precariously balanced it was on a chair on top of Granite's iron block. An extension cord ran from the lamp to the door and outside the room to an electrical outlet. Instead of a typical light bulb, Lavender had put in a flood light. She momentarily turned it on, then off. Satisfied that it worked, she stepped away from it.
Just as he was about to key the microphone to ask her what she was doing, she started to pace back and forth. Her fists were clenched and she appeared to be psyching herself up. His hand fell away from the microphone. "Lavender, what in blazes are you up to?" he muttered.
He felt the rush of wind and then a voice spoke, "Wh-wh-what a-a-a-are you-you d-d-doing h-h-here?"
Any other person would have been startled, but not the Chief. (Actually, he was startled, he just didn't show it.) He turned toward Stutter, held his finger up to his face in a "Shhh" motion and motioned for him to move closer to the booth's window. Stutter moved to where he could see Lavender in the danger room.
Noticing that Lavender appeared to be saying something, Stutter reached out and flicked a switch. Turning a knob on the console they could hear her. "I can do it. It's going to work this time. I can, I can, I can, I can, I can."
"Do you have any idea what she's trying to do?", asked the Chief.
"N-no," said Stutter.
Lavender stopped pacing. The light-purple (Lavender) glow formed around her body and she rose into the air approximately one foot from the floor. Then, something strange happened.
The glow went away from her feet. It started working it's way up her body until both legs were no longer covered in the glow. She dropped to the ground and almost lost her balance. Simultaneously, the glow almost disappeared. It flickered a moment then it resumed it's march up her torso. As it went up to her shoulders it brightened, becoming a white light. As it reached her shoulders, the glow disappeared from her head and the light brightened considerably. As the light went to her outstretched hands, it was almost unbearable to look at.
Lavender went to her knees and she shuddered. In slow motion, the light left her hands as two globes of energy, straight toward another chair next to the wall across from her outstretched arms. As they got closer to the chair, they elonegated and seemed to form into what looked like two hands. As the "hands" went to grab the chair there was a blinding flash and a loud bang. The precariously balanced lamp fell to the floor and broke. The chair against the wall remained intact as if mocking her efforts.
"No, no, no, no, no! Damnit!" she said after puting her face in her hands for a moment then pounding the floor.
Chief keyed the microphone, "Lavender, are you ok?"
"What?!" she said as she immediately stood up. "You were watching me the entire time?"
"Yes, I saw! That was a pretty amazing ...", said the Chief before Lavender cut him off.
"You were watching me the entire time!!!" she yelled as she glared up at him. Livid with rage, arms straight down at her sides, hands pointed out, jumping around slightly with each syllable she spat out, she continued, "What do you mean 'Are you ok?'!!! Of course I'm ok!!! Why wouldn't I be?!!! I try to do something new and the whole goddamn world wants to watch!!!"
"N-n-now h-h-hold on j-j-just...", said Stutter.
"Stutter!!! You too?!!!" and she let loose a typical teenage growl.
Scooping up the lamp, she tried to turn it on. "Great! Just great! Now I'll have to go outside to recharge...again!!!" She threw the lamp to the floor and stormed out of the room.
Stutter raced out of the room to talk to Lavender. The Chief made his way into the danger room.
"Brat", he thought. Mentally correcting himself, "Eighteen year-old brat." Then his mind wandered a moment. Her golden hair...the supple curves of her form as the glow melted away from it... Shaking his head he said to himself, "No, soldier. Don't go there. She's only a kid and your teammate".
His attention returned to the room. Something didn't look right but he couldn't put his finger on what it was. Picking up what was left of the lamp, the Chief tried to put it on the iron block. It wouldn't reach. The extension cord was stretched as tight as it would go. It was then that he noticed Granite's metal block, weighing at least a ton, had moved about a foot.
"Uh, guys..." he said as he rushed out of the room.
